The country of the horse and Haras du Pin
It is well known that Normandy is the country of the horse! First region of horse breeding, it counts lots of professional stable and two national stud farm: Haras du Pin ans Hars of Saint Lô. You want to learn more? So saddle up!
While strolling through the roads of Normandy, you will see everywhere horses herds. We propose you to visit two essentials places; Pin National Stud & La Michaudière.
Pin National Stud is 50 minutes far from Camping de la Vée, fondly called the “Versailles for Horses”. Nowadays it is the 1st place visited in the Orne county with about 70 000 visitors per year. Built during Louis XIV’s reign, the stud covers more than 1000 ha (2.471 acres) and owns more than 200 horses. Its purpose preserve breeds of horses including horses Star: Percheron and Norman Cob which are both emblematic draught horses of the region.
You can choose when to visit but preference should be given to Thursdays because…
- “Le Pin” Thursdays: from the beginning of June to the end of September you can assist in an “Equestre show”: are presented to the public, stallions ridden, in-hand or carriage
- Guided Tour of the Castle from the 17th Century
- Visit of the stud: the harness room, the stables, the listed horse-drawn vehicles

La Michaudière
La Michaudière is also an emblematic place in the region for the person who likes horses and in particular draught horses (like Shire horses). This typical farm of the wooded pastureland of Normandy is only 15 minutes far from Camping de la Vée and has:

- A visit of a typical farm
- A presentation of horses
- An exhibition
- A good table!
